Anatolia English Chair Speaks at Seminar

Dr. Philip Holland, Chairman of the Anatolia English Department, made a presentation to public and private school lykeion teachers of English at a recent seminar led by Dr. Angeliki Deligianni, State Supervisor for English in Thessaloniki. Holland’s talk was entitled “Content Matters” and focused on the need to teach authentic materials of intrinsic interest to lykeion students as a supplement to more traditional grammar and exam-based instruction. He spoke about Anatolia’s senior elective program in particular, which was awarded the 2005 European Language Label under the rubric “Content and Language Integrated Learning.” About a hundred teachers of English from Thessaloniki attended the presentation, which was held at the 1st Gymnasium in Kalamaria on January 17.
